Iasef pics.jpg

Dr. Iasef Md Rian is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), China since January 2019. Prior to joining XJTLU, from January 2016 to January 2019, he was teaching at the University of Sharjah in U.A.E. as an Assistant Professor. He completed his PhD from Politecnico di Torino, Italy in 2015. He teaches architectural design studios both of UG and PG levels. He teaches an elective course on Parametric Design in Architecture. He also teaches a unique interdisciplinary UG course titled Integrated Structural Design for Architecture. His area of research focus is mainly advanced geometry applications in architectectonic design (structural and environmental) using computational (parametric/algorithmic) and performance-based (simulation-informed) design approaches. His current researches are interdisciplinary in nature encompassing mathematics (fractals and rule-based complex geometries), generative design, parametric structures and optimization, and performance-based environmental design in architecture. Dr. Iasef has published dozens of research articles in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings focusing on computational approach of structural forms design and analysis. He is a member of several organizations related to architecture (Council of Architecture, India), mathematics (ISGG), shell structure (IASS), and CAD (ACADIA, CAADRIA). He organized a series of design workshops and some of those were exhibited in prestigious international design events such as 'MadeExpo 2012, 2013' in Milan and 'Dubai Design Week 2018' in Dubai. He is also a regular reviewer of some well-known international journals, such as Automation in Construction, Computer Aided Design, Frontiers of Architectural Researches, Fractals, etc.

Dr. Iasef is also a practicing architect and founder of 'Rian Architects & Designers' in Malda district, India. His studio has designed some small and medium scales residential, religious and commercial projects in West Bengal, India. Being an architect and senior architect in C. P. Kukreja & Associate and S. Ghosh & Associates in New Delhi during the period of 2007 to 2011 (for total 3.5 years), he also designed and coordinated couples of large-scale projects, such as high-rise apartment towers (IREO Uptown, Gurgaon), a University campus (Gautam Buddha University, NOIDA), factory headquarters, a shopping mall, etc. He frequently takes part in international design competitions. Recently, in June 2019, he won an international design competition ASCENSION: Zagreb Observation Tower.
